Kansas native Annette Bening moved with her family to California as a young girl, and her love for the entertainment industry began once she joined the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco in her early adult years. After appearing in productions including Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth, Bening’s successes warranted a move to New York, where her career really took off.

Annette Francine Bening was born 05/29/58 in Topeka, KS to Grant and Shirley Bening. She has 3 siblings - Jane, Brad, and Byron. Annette graduated from Patrick Henry H.S. and went on to San Diego Mesa College and then on to San Francisco State U. After graduating, she entered the American Conservatory Theatre where she remained for several years as a student and as a teacher. She married fellow actor J. Steven White in 1984. She then went on to a theatre company in Denver and then finally to New York where she had a successfull career as a stage actress on Broadway.

Bening was born in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Shirley and Grant Bening, an insurance salesman.[1] Her sister and two brothers are Jane Bening (born 1953), Bradley Bening (born 1955) and Byron Bening (born 1957). The family moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1959, where she spent her early childhood. In 1965, her father took a job with a company in San Diego, California, and they moved there. She began acting in junior high school, playing the lead in The Sound of Music. She studied drama at Patrick Henry High School.

Annette Bening has made a career out of playing strong, independent characters, but not necessarily beautiful ones. That isn't to say that she can't be sexy, as those who watched her love scene in The Grifters can certainly attest to. On the flip side, she's not afraid to joke around in the bedroom either.
