   While technically a comedy, Anna Christie is better described as an uncertain tragedy, one where the outcome is forever in doubt. In the play, 20-year-old Anna Christopherson travels to New York City to meet her father Chris for the first time in 15 years. Anna soon meets and falls in love with a young man, Burke, but spurns his offer of marriage. When pressured for an explanation, Anna strips away all pretensions and reveals to both men her past as a prostitute. Immediately scorned, she is later uneasily reunited with them when she receives Burke’s forgiveness and her father’s acceptance.
6. Anna Vissi
   Anna Vissi has been the most popular artist in Greece and Cyprus for more than two decades, since her first back-to-back breakthroughs at the Salonica Music Festival and Eurovision Song Contest in 1977. Her interpretations of the compositions of her husband Nikos Karvelas span 14 albums and reached new heights on Antidoto, prompting the award-winning star's first visit to America in 1998.
7. Anna Karenina
   Anna Karenina is the wife of Alexey Karenin, a high-ranking government official. At the story's outset, she leaves her son, Seriozha, for the first time to journey to Moscow, where her philandering brother, Stepan Oblonsky, has once again betrayed his long-suffering but loyal wife, Dolly. While there, Anna encounters cavalryman Alexey Vronsky and begins the passionate affair that will eventually lead to her downfall. Tolstoy got the idea for his heroine's first name -- and her tragic ending -- from a neighbor's suicide. In Anna Karenina, he tried to write "a novel of contemporary life," with marriage and adultery as central themes.

   Anna Benson, the wife of New York Met's pitcher Kris Benson was on Howard Stern today. Benson, a former stripper, drew listeners' ire with her obnoxiousness. Benson, noted for screwing in baseball stadiums... admits to having done maybe 30 porn tapes with her husband.
9. Anna Comnena
   Anna Comnena (1083-1133) was the daughter of Byzantine emperor Alexius Comnenus. She was ambitious and well-educated. At first, she was engaged to the son of a former emperor, and hoped to become an empress eventually, but then her father produced a brother John who was destined to inherit the throne. After Anna's first husband died, she married an aristocrat named Nicephorus Byrennius, and after he was named caesar (second only to the emperor), it seemed for a time that she might get her wish to become empress. But when her father died, her brother John (r1119-1143) took over. Twice, she joined plots to assassinate her brother, so she was exiled to a monastery where she died.
10. Anna Lee
    Anna Lee was born Joan Boniface Winnifrith on January 2, 1913, in the village of Ightham, Kent, England, where her father was Rector of St. Peter's Church. At the age of 17, Miss Lee began to study with Elsie Fogarty at the famed Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The alumni of this academy include Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud. From there she joined the London Repertory Theatre and toured in such plays as The Constant Nymph and Jane Eyre.
