Ann Coulter: Washington Post
built 116 days ago
The context of Coulter's one-liner was probably too Hollywood for her audience. (As UPI explained, Coulter was probably riffing off actor Isaiah Washington's recent—and calculated—entry into rehab after he called one of his Grey's Anatomy co-stars a "faggot.") Townhall.com's Dean Barnett wrote that "uncomfortable silence" and not "boisterous laughter" followed her remark.

In 2006, Coulter was investigated for but not charged with voting fraud for voting in the wrong precinct and registering with an address that did not belong to her, a third-degree felony in Florida. Coulter's local Palm Beach County authorities declined to prosecute citing 'insubstantial evidence' of deliberate wrongdoing, and following a phone call to the investigating detective by Jim Fitzgerald, an FBI counterintelligence-agent, who claimed she was fearful of a stalker. In August 2007, the Palm Beach Post reported that the Florida Elections Commission had assigned an investigator to pursue the question.

Additionally, Coulter was making a clear reference to the recent uproar which ultimately resulted in Grey’s Anatomy star Isaiah Washington giving into PC pressure to check into “homophobia rehab” after calling his homosexual co-star T.R. Knight a “faggot.”
