Anita Garvin ( February 11 , 1906 - July 7 , 1994 ) was an American actress and comedienne who appeared in both silent and sound films. She is best known for her work with the comedians Laurel and Hardy and Charley Chase .
Synopsis: In "From Soup to Nuts," Anita Garvin and hubby Tiny Sanford are suddenly rich and must find a way to join the hoi polloi of high society. Naturally, this includes a big dinner party, requiring the addition of two special waiters to project the desired level of snootiness. Unfortunately for Garvin, the Waiter's Union sends Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

In the absence of their wives (including Anita Garvin) Stan and Ollie plan to go to a convention. Riding clothing must be worn and after Ollie puts Stan’s boots on by mistake, the rest of the short is taken up trying to remove them.

Garvin appeared in many Laurel & Hardy shorts and literally shone brightly in all of them. Her forté was her expressions of exasperation and anger. Teeth clenched and lips held tightly as she uttered whatever venomous words were appropriate for the situation - Garvin was funny and a joy to watch but still an extremely attractive lady through it all.
Garvin was born in New York City. Later, she moved to California where in 1924, she initially worked for Al Christie's comedy unit. She then began work for Educational Studios and eventually, in 1926 Hal Roach, where she appeared in many silent films with Charley Chase, James Finlayson, and Max Davidson as well as playing occasional supporting roles in feature films.
Although this film actually has four stars (Edgar Kennedy and Stu Erwin co-starred), the show was completely stolen by Byron and her roommate in the story, Anita Garvin. Erwin comes to pick up girlfriend Byron and brings along a blind date (Kennedy) for Garvin. The two girls, especially Garvin, could care less about their dates - they just want someone to take them out to a nice restaurant for an expensive meal. However, the two tightwads (hence the title, "A Pair of Tights") do everything they can to avoid spending money on a big meal and figure getting some ice cream (a less expensive alternative) may spoil the girls' appetites.
