Animal Cell: Animal Cells

Centrioles Nonmembrane-bound organelles that occur in pairs just outside the nucleus of animal cells. Each centriole is composed of a cylinder or ring of 9 sets of microtubule triplets with none in the middle (9 + 0 pattern). During cell division a pair of centrioles moves to each end of the cell, forming the poles of the mitotic spindle. Centrioles ... give rise to basal bodies that control the origin of cilia and flagella in motile cells of protists. In cross section, flagella and cilia have 9 sets of microtubule doublets surrounding a pair of single microtubules in the center (9 + 2 pattern). This characteristic pattern also occurs in motile cells of higher organisms, such as human sperm.

Gather possible materials for the animal cell parts that you'll include on the model. For example, a small round ball could be the nucleus and a larger rubber band could depict cell membrane. Use common household products when you can to save time and money. Be creative in choosing these materials for your cell parts.

There are ... differences between the typical plant and animal eukaryotic cell. The main differences between plant and animal eukaryotic cells are that plant cells contain cell walls, glyoxysomes and plastids, while animal cells do not. Animal cells contain centrioles and lysosomes which are not found in typical plant cells.
Increasingly animal cells are used to produce vaccines, proteins, eukaryotic genes, tissue grafts. By far the most important is use of cells as a host for growth of viruses for vaccines for polio, rabies, measels, rubella etc. Animal cells ... used for expression hosts for production of proteins from recombinant DNA. Bacterial cells are limited for such expression because they do not undertake any post-translational modification of proteins such as glycosylation, protein cleavage, S-S formation, phosphorylation, carboxylation and amidation. While animal cells perform these modifications.
EINO Animal Cell Model Most cells have a similar structure—they have an outer layer (known as the cell membrane) and contain a fluid material (aka cytoplasm). Moving around in the cytoplasm are little specialized structures called organelles. This animal cell model shows the various features found in a cell in detail! The helpful instruction booklet and assembly manual identifies each structure and its function within the cell. For example, did you know that the mitochondria contained in a cell act as a “powerhouse” of energy due to how much energy they release? And that the nucleus is the control center of the animal cell?
