[B]ack on the career front, Jolie – possibly distracted by her tumultuous personal crises – seemed a bit unfocused in her next two features. Starring opposite Antonio Banderas in the dismal noir-wannabe “Original Sin" (2001), Jolie came off less than committed, despite some steamy – and heavily hyped – erotic sequences. Her follow-up, the dramatic vehicle "Life or Something Like It" (2002) – in which she played a superficial, platinum blonde newscaster forced to examine her existence more closely – ... died quickly. Jolie subsequently took a significant hiatus from film, but continued to make headlines in her personal life, divorcing Thornton in 2003 amid rumors of his infidelity (which he denied). It was also rumored that Jolie’s recent adoption of a baby boy from a Cambodian orphanage whom she named Maddox, did not help matters. The couple was allegedly at different points in their life and thus, split.

In between giving birth, adopting another son with partner Brad Pitt and visiting refugees in Chad, Jolie actually found time to do some acting. She cozied up to Matt Damon in The Good Shepherd, and this summer she'll appear as the widow of slain reporter Daniel Pearl in A Mighty Heart. But next year might be less lucrative for Jolie: She's announced her intention to take a year off from making movies to raise her brood.

Because Vietnamese law makes it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt, Jolie adopted Pax on her own, but he is being raised by both her and Pitt. In April, Jolie formally requested that the court change her new son’s name to Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.

Angelina has a mix of tattoos on both her arms. Her left bicep previously had the name "Billy Bob" and a black tribal dragon on it. Both of those pieces have since been removed by laser treatments. In their place are now the latitude and longitude numbers for the birthplaces of Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh and Pax.

Mr. Pitt was photographed tooling around the Big Easy with Pax Thien Jolie, 4. The pair were burning rubber on something called an E-Z GO ST 4X4 Honda Powered Utility Cart—an army green, combat-ready vehicle that would have made a nice federal-funded addition to the city 28 months ago. The Burn After Reading star didn’t let the little tyke go hungry, though; he made sure to swing by an area convenient store for snacks before heading back to the ranch. It appears as if the father-son team were driving on city roadways, but no stink has yet been raised of Mr. Pitt’s Britney Spears-style grasp on Pax. Then again, it did happen last year.

Jolie eloped to Las Vegas with Pushing Tin (1999) fellow actor Billy Bob Thornton on May 5, 2000 and adopted Cambodian son Maddox Jolie in 2002. In the same year, the couple filed for divorce on July 18.
