Angband is a freeware computer role playing game based loosely on the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, in which the player explores the dungeon of Angband, killing monsters, collecting treasure, and eventually defeating Morgoth, the Master of the Pits of Angband.

Angband is an ASCII graphic based dungeon crawl with a Tolkien inspired theme. While it won’t win any awards in the graphic and sound department, it is a surprisingly complex and complete game that has the potential to hold many people’s attention for hours on end.

Angband features many enhancements over Moria: unique foes, artifacts, monster pits and vaults to name a few. Many of these new creatures and objects are drawn from the writings of J.R.R Tolkien, although some of the monsters come straight from classical mythology, Dungeons & Dragons, Rolemaster, or the minds of the orginal Angband coders.
