Born Andres Arturo Garcia-Menendez, actor Andy Garcia was five when he fled with his family to Miami from his native Cuba. Andy was born as a conjoined twin, but unfortunately, his twin did not survive. Garcia bears a scar on his shoulder as a reminder.

Andy Garcia was born with a conjoined twin the size of a softball attached to his shoulder. It was surgically removed, and Garcia has no memory of it. His family fled the Castro regime and came to Miami when Garcia was five. They had a difficult time at first, going from successful Cubans to newcomers who barely spoke the language. His father had been a lawyer in his native land, but worked in a warehouse in America. As a boy, Garcia would go to his father's warehouse after basketball practice and sweep floors until they went home at about 8 PM every evening. He has fond memories of sitting outside a bar, listening to Cuban musicians when he was too young to go inside.

Sporting a well-worn, bulky tan coat, Garcia runs his fingers through his thick tousled hair. Even as he talks, the surroundings echo his words. He sits in the backyard of a small bungalow in a residential neighborhood in Sherman Oaks, California, out in the valley, over a range of hills from Beverly Hills. This modest home, which now houses his production company, Cineson, was the place where he raised his family until a few years ago. You could drive by and miss it, sitting amid a long row of single-story, ranch-style homes on a tranquil street.

Garcia tells the Miami Herald that Taylor's "heroic action" saved Jackie and daughter... named Jackie, and called the incident "a testament to his humanity and courage." Taylor was shot when he grabbed a machete to confront an intruder, while Jackie Garcia reportedly hid in the bedroom with the 18-month-old baby. Until now, Andy and his family had not given any public comment on the killing.
