Andrew Peters Andrew Peters’ paintings are the result of a life spent in nature. Growing up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was usually hunting and fishing with his father in the Missouri River Valley. At nearby Fontenelle Forest he was mentored in ecology by naturalist James Malkowski. He drew birds from life and Audubon prints, and studied academic painting in the studio of Fran Day. He earned a bachelor of Sciences degree from Iowa State University with a minor in art, and won the Iowa Duck Stamp competition at the age of 22 which launched his fine art career.
Andrew Carnegie, three-quarter length portrait, 1913. Andrew Carnegie's life was a true "rags to riches" story. Born to a poor Scottish family that immigrated to the United States, Carnegie became a powerful businessman and a leading force in the American steel industry. Today, he is remembered as an industrialist, millionaire, and philanthropist. Carnegie believed that the wealthy had an obligation to give back to society, so he donated much of his fortune to causes like education and peace.

During this weakening phase, the cyclone moved northward and then accelerated northeastward. Andrew and its remnants continued to produce heavy rain that locally exceeded 10 inches near its track (Table 2b). By midday on the 28th, Andrew had begun to merge with a frontal system over the mid-Atlantic states.

A surface reporting station recorded a maximum wind gust of 120 mph as the eye wall passed. The height of this wind instrument above the ground was unknown. Reconnaissance reports indicated the hurricane had a "double eye" structure for a few hours. Hurricane Andrew weakened slightly as it passed through the Bahamas and the central pressure rose to 941mb.
