Anderson served as part of the Expedition 15 crew aboard the station after launching on mission STS-117 aboard the space shuttle Atlantis on June 8, 2007. While aboard the station, Anderson conducted several spacewalks and helped relocate the shuttle's docking port using the station's robotic arm. His work has helped the station begin the first expansion of its living and working space in more than six years.
John Anderson Between 1961 and 1981, Mr. Anderson served ten terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 16th District of Illinois. He served on the House Rules Committee and for a decade was Chairman of the House Republican Conference. He served as States Attorney in Winnebago County, Illinois for four years.

Anderson joined NASA's Johnson Space Center in 1983 in the mission planning and analysis division where he performed rendezvous and proximity operations trajectory designs for shuttle missions. On Aug. 21, Anderson released a statement to the Grand Forks Herald: “Otto got it wrong today. She clearly does not understand basic governmental accounting. Otto claimed there were hundreds of millions of dollars in errors, when in fact there were none.”
