Virtual History - Ancient Egypt is a totally engaging, multi-level computer simulation that was developed with state and national standards to support targeted learning objectives and student outcomes for World History and Ancient Civilizations. In this 5-7 day module, students assume the role of a village leader who assigns work tasks to the villagers of a Nile River civilization. Basic human needs must be met - food planted and harvested at just the right time, fish drawn up from the Nile and bricks for housing construction must be made. Copper must be mined. Tools must be forged. Irrigation ditches must be dug.

Ancient Egypt had advanced science and technology for the time. Thoth, in the form of an ibis, was the inventor of astrology and mathematics -- the god of wisdom and magic. Several areas in The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt relate to geography. The case entitled "Geography" includes a map of ancient Egypt and another one showing the countries that had contact with Egypt; it ... contains some imported jars and a bowl. The Carnegie boat exhibit is a good place to discuss the importance of the Nile River to the ancient Egyptians. This exhibit can be supplemented with the panel on travel to the left of the boat. The case entitled "Military" discusses some of the Egyptians' foreign contacts. Other cases throughout the hall display some artifacts made from Egypt's mineral resources and from materials obtained from trade.

In Ancient Egypt the King was called a Pharaoh. The Pharaoh had total power. Egyptians believed that the Kings got their power from the gods. The King built temples to the gods and had to keep them happy with gifts and sacrifices. The Egyptians believed that the Pharaohs were god-like themselves.
