Ancient Egypt: New Kingdom
built 192 days ago
Ancient Egypt is one of the planet's oldest and most intriguing. Archaeological investigations into the lives of the pharaohs of the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms, as well as the Ptolemaic kings, have enhanced much of the written record.
The earliest tomb architecture in ancient Egypt was the mastaba, a flat-roofed rectangular structure of mudbrick or stone built over an underground burial chamber. The mastaba was the most popular tomb among the nobility in the Old Kingdom, and the first pyramid, the step pyramid of Djoser, is actually a series of stone mastabas stacked on top of each other. The step pyramid was itself the inspiration for the first true pyramids. Pyramids were built by the pharaohs of the Old and Middle Kingdoms, but later rulers abandoned them in favor of less conspicuous rock-cut tombs.[69] New Kingdom pharaohs built their rock-cut tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and by the Third Intermediate Period, the pharaohs had abandoned building grand tomb architecture altogether.
The Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt contains a reconstruction of the central burial chamber of the "middle-class" tomb of Sennedjem where you will find artifacts excavated from similar tombs of the New Kingdom. The hall ... has two human mummies and several animal mummies; the latter were used as offerings to the deities. Also on view are many objects thought to be necessary for the deceased in the afterlife. One of the highlights of the hall is the funerary boat, one of five or six similar boats from the pyramid complex of Senwosret III, that were probably used in his funeral procession.

Probably the first written reference to diabetes is found in the Ebers Papyrus of ancient Egypt dating back to about 1550 BC. The disease knows no medical speciality boundaries. Diabetic retinopathy is a specific microvascular complication of both insulin dependant (type1) and non insulin dependant (type 2) diabetes. The prevalence of retinopathy is strongly linked to the duration of diabetes. After 20 years of diabetes nearly all patients with type 1 diabetes and over 60% of patients with type 2 diabetes have some degree of retinopathy. Up to a fifth of newly diagnosed diabetics have been found to have some retinopathy.
Because the history of ancient Egypt spanned a period of more than three thousand years, customs and traditions varied in different periods. This guide focuses on the material culture of a nonroyal Egyptian family at the time of the New Kingdom (ca. 1539-1070 B.C.)

The history of Egypt was divided into Dynasties about 280 BC, when the priest Manetho compiled a list of the pharaohs of Egypt and grouped the ancient rulers into 30 dynasties. Later historians grouped the dynasties into 'Kingdoms' and 'Intermediate Periods.'
