In September 2003, Anastacia entered the studio with Grammy-award winners Glen Ballard, Dallas Austin, and Dave Stewart and began what the singer referred to as a "difficult creative journey." Warned by her doctors that she would be physically drained from her treatment Anastacia stood prepared, as feisty as ever, to fight through whatever stood in her way. Reality check. "The experience was not pleasant," said Anastacia. "I usually look for the bright side of things, but so far nothing about making this record was positive for me. My doctor told me I'd be tired, not stupid," said Anastacia. "I could not focus on anything.

Anastacia was romantically linked to several men throughout her career. She had a relationship with Shawn Woods for 6 years and the singer claims he was the love of her life. Rumors claim the pair split up because Anastacia found him in bed with another woman, which might explain the song "Why'd You Lie to Me" (in which Anastacia sings about a relationship that crashed because her boyfriend was cheating on her).

Her father being a club singer while her mother a Broadway actress the need to perform was ingrained in the child Anastacia from a very early age. However tragedy struck when she was thirteen years old when doctors diagnosed her with Crohn’s disease. Despite all odds ... she started performing and in 1992 appeared with D.L Hughley and sung Oleta Adams’ single “Get Here” .She went on to appear in various videos that featured rappers Salt-N-Pepa. After her successful debut and other well-known hits she was picked to perform live for the Divas Live Concert with all time greats like Celine Dion, Cher and Shakira. She also sang the 2002 FIFA World Cup theme song. This star however has had lots of ups and downs in her career when in 2003 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent successful surgery and started raising awareness for the disease that had almost given her a scare.

Performing a song that she wrote, Anastacia ended up as one of the 10 finalists out of 160 contestants; similar to the way singer CoCo Lee broke into the music industry.
