After ditching Georgia State University in 1993 because she considered it too much like high school, Dumas wound up in Washington, DC, where she briefly played bass in a couple of short-lived bands. Her boyfriend at the time... in a band, was a big wrestling fan. Dumas didn’t get it at first.

After briefly working on the independent circuit and in Extreme Championship Wrestling, Dumas signed with the World Wrestling Federation in 1999. Originally, she was paired with Essa Rios,[6][7] but she achieved her greatest push alongside Matt and Jeff Hardy as Team Xtreme. Throughout her career, she won the WWE Women's Championship four times.[8]

Dumas's high energy, high risk wrestling style in WWE as Lita quickly gained her a large and loyal fan base. She was a member of very popular Team Xtreme with the high flying tag team the Hardy Boyz . A two-time WWE Women's Champion, she has been one of the most popular WWE divas in history. Despite her in-ring history, she gained some measure of infamy for her involvement in a real life love triangle involving long time boyfriend Matt Hardy and fellow WWE wrestler Edge .

WWE could have so easily had Hardy "drafted" by Smackdown in their upcoming "draft lottery" and dealt with things that way...separating Hardy from Copeland and Dumas (except for joint brand PPVs). This would have been so much smarter than canning Hardy and handing him over to TNA and independent promotions, and making him a popular hero.
