Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that belongs to a class of antibiotics called penicillins. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: probenecid because it may increase the actions and side effects of Amoxicillin; tetracycline antibiotics (eg, doxycycline) because the effectiveness of Amoxicillin may be decreased; methotrexate because risk of side effects and toxicity, including kidney failure (severely decreased urine output, confusion, weight gain), unusual bruising or bleeding, possible increase in infections, fatigue, or mouth and skin ulcers, may be increased by Amoxicillin

Amoxicillin is indicated in the treatment of susceptible strains of the organisms causing the following infections: Upper respiratory tract infections due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., and E. coli. Genitourinary tract infections (cystitis) due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., E. coli, and Proteus mirabilis. Gastrointestinal tract infections due to E. coli.Skin and soft tissue infections (abscesses, lacerations, and wounds) due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp., E. coli, and Pasteurella multocida. As with all antibiotics, appropriate in vitro culturing and susceptibility testing of samples taken before treatment should be conducted.
