T[H]is little film, written and directed by Amos Kollek, tries hard to be charming but succeeds only occasionally. It tells two roughly parallel relationship stories. Front and center are winsome diner waitress Bella (Anna Thomson) and slow-to-mature Bruno (Jamie Harris). They meet on a blind date and begin a cautious courtship – one complicated by Bella's early untruthful declaration that she "hates kids," unaware that Bruno recently had two – one his, one not – dumped in his lap by his ex-wife. She makes this statement because one of her friends said that to do otherwise would scare Bruno off.
Amos Kollek tells the dramatic story of Fiona, a young woman abandoned at birth on the streets of New York. Sexually abused by her foster father she finally ends up, like her mother, as a prostitute and drug addict. Fiona knows no moral boundaries. Sleeping with men and women alike she is an equally passionate lover and killer. Unknown to either, she meets her own mother and spends a night with her. When Fiona is caught shop-lifting and shot in the process, her plans of leaving the city for good go up in smoke.

Amos Kollek directs this quiet, understated comedy about lonely hearts and empty pockets in New York. Pushing 40, Bella (Anna Thomson) works as a waitress at small downtown diner in Manhattan. Her elderly regulars include Paul (Robert Modica), a lovelorn retiree who scours the personal ads and his ill-tempered buddies Seymour (Victor Argo) and Graham (Mark Margolis), who are more than a little disparaging toward Paul's attempts at finding love.
