Amitabh Bachchan: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan
built 640 days ago
Bachchan's first solo film to achieve box office success came when director Prakash Mehra cast him in the leading role for his film Zanjeer (1973). The movie was a sharp contrast to the romantically themed films that had generally preceded it and established Amitabh in a new persona – the "angry young man" action hero of Bollywood. The next decade catapulted him to the pinnacle of Bollywood superstardom. He churned out at least one major hit every year,[5] including Deewaar (1975), Sholay (1975) Trishul (1978), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Don (1978), Kasme Vaade (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979), Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Ram Balram (1980), Shaan (1980), Lawaaris (1981), and Shakti (1982).[6] In fact, in 1978, the top four grossing films of India starred Amitabh Bachchan .[7] On account of this unprecedented run and stature he enjoyed, he was billed a "one-man industry" by the French director Francois Truffaut.[8]

Bollywood SuperStar Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan rocked in each movie they did together, whether it’s RGV’s Sarkar, Shaad Ali’s Bunty Aur Babli or Karan Johar’s KANK. The real life father-son jodi will play the same onscreen in Balki’s forthcoming film titled Pa.

Between 1969 and 1973, the date of his first film, Bachchan's career was stalled. He appeared in films such as Reshma Aur Shera where he played a mute man (1971), Parwana (1971) where he played a psycopath but these films did not establish him as a superstar. However he did win a FilmFare Award for "Best Supporting Actor" for his work in Anand in 1970 but this did not translate into the kind of fame that would bring large audiences to see his films.

Brand Amitabh sells like hot cakes in the box office. The mega superstar has already delivered one super hit (Bunty Aur Babli), two hits (Black and Sarkar) and two semi-hits (Waqt and Viruddh) this year. Some of the other hits of Big B in 2005 have ... done decent business in certain quarters.

Bollywood superstar AMITABH BACHCHAN has surrendered his farmland following accusations he acquired plots by falsely declaring himself a farmer. The 64-year-old actor owned land in the states of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, which his wife, Jaya, represents in parliament . But the star came under fire for using his political contacts to be designated as a farmer after a court in Uttar Pradesh ruled that a 1983 certificate identifying Bachchan as a farmer was forged. Bachchan has agreed to surrender the land and has given it to local farmers.

Two 1973 film launched Bachchan as a superstar. In Abhimaan, he played a singer who succumbs to jealousy (The role might have been inspired by the Barbra Streisand movie A Star is Born). A strong score by music director S.D. Burman and real chemistry with his co-star (and later, wife) Jaya Badhuri established him as a talented actor.
