leo1.jpg Amitabh Bachchan is an enigma whose feat cannot be paralleled by the Shahrukhs and Devgans of today who try desperately to look and sound like him. He is a class apart and will always remain the uncrowned king of Hindi cinema. Some movies have fared well only because the presence of this enigma was heavily felt.

In 1982 Amitabh was the acclaimed angry young man and he was then signed up to face Dilip Kumar in the movie Shakti. Even though Dilip Kumar was playing the role of his father but fans and media expected the movie like it is a contest between two giants. And it was, Shakti was a story of a broken relationship between a father and his son. There were intense dialogs, emotionally charged scenes, tears and lots of drama just to make sure that audience get what they wanted from the movie. Shakti wasn’t major blockbuster but Dilip Kumar won filmfare for his role in the movie. This was the last time Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan appeared together in a movie.
Little did the movie moguls who turned away the 27-year-old gawky colossus who approached them in Mumbai in 1969 realise that Bachchan was to rewrite cinematic history. He was too thin, had legs which went on endlessly and sunken eyes. In fact, he was all packed and ready to go back to Calcutta where he had worked as an executive in Bird and Co when some friends and Jaya, then Bhaduri, pulled the brooding actor stringing his guitar out of his flat and partied the night away on Juhu Beach. He missed his train and stayed on. It took 13 films and Prakash Mehra's Zanzeer before he got a hit.
