While there are forced elements in a show like “Idol,” that show at least plays out in real time and has the power of the American public. “Survivor” is closer to a scripted show. It’s taped in advance and the participants are put under 24-hour-a-day scrutiny and given artificial challeneges and unusual living habits. Pulling the race card is probably the smartest thing for the show to do to get people drawn back into the show, at least temporarily. Surely, some will be alienated but probably not as many as those who will be curious.
