The first day of the week on the American Idol calendar is Thursday. Ryan Seacrest had announced the elimination the night before, and now that you knew you were safe, it was time to prepare for the next week (except during the semifinals, where you have to prepare for the next week and just hope).

On an interview with "Good Morning America", Simon Cowell was asked of the six "American Idol" winners, who he thought had the best voice. Caldwell, who ... hosts Reality Chat and American Idol pre-show for TV Guide Network, will host the radio show from Los Angeles. A licensing agreement with TV Guide Network will extend the brand to radio. The show will be primarily original reporting with a limited amount of re-purposed content from TV Guide Network. Impact Radio Networks will produce and distribute the content, which begins airing late December.

Day two of the American Idol open-call phase featured more uber-kindness from the judges, and more singers who may be serial killers (the fingernail keeper, the breathing-exercises Bon Jovi guy—see below). The Dallas auditions brought a farmer and a frat boy, plus wannabe Carrie Underwoods (Jessica Brown), bizarro Kelly Clarksons (Beth Maddocks) and a dead ringer for James Van Der Beek (Colton Swon). Against expectations for an established series, “American Idol” has gained in the ratings, up 14 percent from 2005 (26.8 million average viewers) to 2006 (30.6 million). The finale with winner Taylor Hicks drew more than 36 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The second night of American Idol, this one featuring auditions from Dallas, averaged 30.4 million viewers and a 12.6 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Those Final Live + Same Day National Ratings were off by 3 million viewers and 1.2 demographic ratings points from Tuesday’s premiere.
