Last night, "American Idol"'s Final 12 guys sang the '60s. Tonight, it's the girls' chance to show the American public what they've got. But before the voting starts, executive producer NIGEL LYTHGOE wants to set the record straight, and make sure that all the press about CARLY SMITHSON's previous record contract doesn't negatively impact her chances.

“American Idol” displayed incorrect phone numbers for three singers after Tuesday night's edition of the Fox show aired. Fox has announced that the network will air a new performance show Wednesday night (9 p.m. ET) and re-open the voting, with the results show moved to Thursday.

The callers were unable to place their votes through the 900 number, as the defendants were not affiliated in any way with the “American Idol” program. All that defendants provided when the consumer dialed the 900 number was a recitation of the same toll-free numbers that consumers could have called directly to reach the actual “American Idol” voting lines. Under a settlement reached with the FTC, the defendants will pay a civil penalty of $40,000.

The warbly Amy Davis got kicked off American Idol last night despite the efforts of Vote For The Worst, who picked her as their female favorite earlier this week. (The site blamed server problems for their abortive effort to keep her in the Idol mix, but I think that her wobbly vocals were just too much to bear for even the most cynical Idol watcher.) Talk of such a former occupation began on VotefortheWorst.com, a well-known, anti-American Idol website. So it’s hard to say how legitimate this piece of gossip is. But the site has supposedly received numerous comments validating Hernandez’s prior job, while the accompanying photos on this post ... back up the rumor.
