built 136 days ago
On Tuesday, April 24th during the broadcast of "American Idol" (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), the Top 6 finalists will sing songs that can be considered "Life Anthems." In keeping with the IDOL GIVES BACK theme, all the songs performed will be about compassion and hope. After the performance, viewers can vote for their favorite contestants via toll-free numbers and text messages, and corporate sponsors such as News Corporation, Coca-Cola and AT&T will donate money to the cause. The following evening's broadcast will feature the contestant vote-off amidst a star-studded extravaganza of celebrities and recording artists urging Americans to make their own donations via toll-free telephone lines and the Internet. Ford will contribute generously by producing a very special music video. You'll get a sneak peek at the video on Wednesday night.

Last night's American Idol allowed the contestants to sing the songs of the '70s, which meant that there was a lot of Freedom Rock, a Donny Hathaway shoutout, and an emotional tribute to Karen Carpenter. (Or Juno, maybe.) After the jump, I rank last night's performers from David Hernandez on down, moon over David Cook's love of crossword puzzles, and let the world know why David Archuleta has to be stopped, or at least pulled aside for a stern talking-to. more

It’s the first year American Idol has partnered with iTunes to offer digital downloads of all performances from the Top 24 contestants. So, aside from being another huge revenue stream for the Fox hit, will it ... give America a good idea of who the obvious favorites are each week?

Following last week's 1960s theme, this week on American Idol, the young hopefuls will mash their way through the songs of the '70s. (I'm sure Fox is chagrined that it isn't still showing That '70s Show, as tonight's episode would've been a wonderful opportunity for Wilmer Valderrama to show up as Fez and warble his way through "I Will Survive.") And in yet another sign that this year's contestants are all about recycling, David "My Mom Wants To Name My Fans" Archuleta sang "Imagine," which he ... treated the viewers of Star Search to a few years (and a changed voice) ago.
