2. Nascar Nextel Cup -- Nascar Nextel Cup Series
   ESPN and ESPN on ABC will have comprehensive, multi-platform coverage featuring telecasts of the final 17 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races including the 10-race “Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup” championship on ESPN on ABC. Additionally, ESPN2 will be the home of the NASCAR Busch Series all season. For the first time in the history of televised motorsports, all programming will be produced totally in High Definition. ESPN’s comprehensive, multimedia NASCAR coverage will extend to ESPN.com, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Deportes Radio, SportsCenter, ESPN The Magazine, ESPN Classic, ESPNEWS, ESPNRadio, ESPN360 and ESPN International, among other ESPN platforms. ESPN aired 262 NASCAR Cup Races over a 20-year period starting in 1981. The network's award-winning, live flag-to-flag coverage on ESPN was honored with 17 Sports Emmy Awards, as well as many industry honors.
3. Nextel Communications -- Nextel Cup
   · Nextel Communications Inc., continues its first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series ad campaign with two new spots showing fans using their Nextel phones with digital walkie-talkie Direct Connect, often with humorous consequences. In one ad, fans “Direct Connect” each other to embellish the truth and shorten a very long concession line. A second spot shows friends in the racetrack’s RV park using Direct Connect to navigate through the masses. Nextel will run three other spots that debuted in the weeks leading up to the Daytona 500. One spot, featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. scoring an NFL touchdown – in his race car – was rated one of the best ads from this year’s Super Bowl broadcast.
4. Stanley Cup -- Lord Stanley
   The Stanley Cup, oldest trophy competed for by professional athletes in North America, was donated in 1892 by Sir Frederick Arthur, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby, in 1893. He purchased the trophy for 10 Guineas ($50.00 at that time) to be presented to "the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada."
5. Meg Mallon -- Solheim Cup
   The United States clinched the Cup when Meg Mallon rolled in a 6-foot putt for par on No. 16 to go 2-up with two holes to play against Karen Stupples, guaranteeing the half-point the United States team needed to reach 14½. The Europeans, as defending champions, needed 14 points to retain the Cup, but they faltered early.

7. Carl Edwards -- Nextel Cup
   Edwards named an Ambassador for Youth for National PTA: National PTA has teamed up with Carl Edwards, driver of the #99 Office Depot Ford Fusion, to boost family nutrition and wellness and help kids excel in school. Edwards, a former substitute teacher, has been named an Ambassador for Youth for National PTA. He joins businesswoman and designer Kathy Ireland in encouraging parents to make time and get involved in their kid's school and PTA. 8. Nascar Nextel Cup -- Drivers
   The NASCAR Nextel Cup Leader Bonus is $70,000 at California Speedway for leading the points and winning the race (Matt Kenseth last won the award, $30,000 at Las Vegas on March 7, 2004). The $360,000 annual award is paid at $10,000 per race to the point leader at the end of each event if the driver is ... the winner. The award increases by $10,000 each week the it goes unclaimed. If the point leader is not the race winner at the end of the year, the balance of the award is distributed among the top-10 finishers in the drivers point standings(4-25-2004)

10. Nick Faldo -- Ryder Cup
    Six-time Major winner Nick Faldo is hoping a strong outing at the inaugural Volkswagen Masters China at Pine Valley Golf Club this week will kick-start his Ryder Cup bid. The Englishman is harbouring hopes of featuring in his 12th Ryder Cup appearance and is looking for a confidence-builder at the event, the ninth leg of this season's Asian Tour.
