Labyrinth as a design of the Pattern of Amber There were eighteen annual Amber conventions so far, the nineteenth will be held March 13th-16th, 2008. Along with 'Ambercon' there is: 'A Far Southern Shadow' in Atlanta, 'The Black Road' in Marlborough, Mass., 'Courts of Chaos Con' in Raleigh, N.C., 'Ambercon UK' in Reading, England, 'Ambercon North' in Toronto, Canada, and 'Ambercon Northwest' in Portland, Oregon. The newest Con is KolvirCon being held in Denver, Colorado.
Most Amber characters are members of the two ruling classes in the Amber multiverse, and are much more advanced in matters of strength, endurance, psyche, warfare and sorcery than ordinary beings. This means that the only individuals who are capable of opposing a character are from his or her family, a fact that leads to much suspicion and intrigue.

Better still, for purposes of running a game in Zelazny's world, the Amber novels have biased narrators, Corwin in the first series, Merlin in the second. When he was writing the first book, Zelazny considered having a different Amber prince narrate each novel. Wujcik takes this into account by providing multiple versions of the major characters and several additional ideas of how and why they might differ from their portrayal in the novels.
Amber Diceless RPG While some worlds are high-technology, Amber-the-game tends to involve magic and more primitive weapons - simply because hi-tech weapons and gadgets don't travel well. If an Amberite wants a reliable defence that works in any world, her best bet will always be a sharp sword and a spell or two. but does stop the gadgets from dominating the game.

Be warned: Amber includes the sentences "[Amber] is not a game" and "the best kind of roleplaying is pure roleplaying. No rules, no points, and no mechanics." Those of you sensitive to such things should be warned against impulses to moan and groan and certainly have friends standing by who can catch the book when you throw it across the room.
