Lucy (Amanda Donohoe) is half Gerald's age. She has a low-level office job (clerk?) for Inland Revenue that doesn't present much opportunity or earn her a great deal of respect. She has not been given the chance to come into her own, and ... hasn't really found herself.

After many successful years stateside Amanda Donohoe has made a welcome return to the UK playing Mrs Robinson in the West End hit The Graduate. She is probably most recognised for her portrayal as a lesbian Lawyer in the US TV series LA Law, for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. Other TV credits include playing herself in Bob Martin, Frasier, The Thornbirds, Murder Most Horrid, A Womans Guide to Adultery and Game Set & Match. Amanda Donohoe ... has a successful Film career with appearances in Circus, as Miranda in Liar Liar and Lady Pembroke in The Madness of King George. She also won the Variety Club of Great Britain Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture playing Christine Morahan opposite Paul McGann in Paper Mask. A charming speaker with much to tell about Film and TV.

On 18 December 2000: It was confirmed today that Amanda Donohoe will take over the lead role of 'Mrs Robinson' from 12 February 2001. She will be playing a strictly limited eight week season. Jerry Hall, who is curently playing 'Mrs Robinson' will be leaving the show on 10 February 2001. A new eight week booking period - 12 February to 7 April 2001 - has ... been announced, tickets for these performances are expected to go on sale within the next couple of days. It was also announced that since opening on 24 March 2000, The Graduate has been seen by over 212,000 theatregoers, taking a record breaking £5.8 million at the Box Office. Amanda Donohoe was last seen on the West End stage in 1997 playing 'Mrs Simpson' opposite Corin Redgrave's 'Edward VIII' in HRH.
Oliver Reed and Amanda Donohoe star here in Nicolas Roeg's interpretation of the real-life experiences of Lucy Irvine, who replied to a newspaper advert from Gerald Kingsland for a woman to join him for a year on a desert island. It's essentially an excuse for Reed and Donohoe to get their kit off, but both cope well with their roles as the castaway and the sex-mad middle-aged man who is her companion. However, in the end you can't help feeling that this is just a lot of nudity (though Reed's is luckily often hidden by well-positioned foliage) used to spice up a tale of two selfish people who probably deserved each other.
