Altoids: Altoids Curious
built 282 days ago
Altoids are a popular brand of breath mints that have been in existence since the turn of the 19th century. Altoids are produced in Great Britain by Callard & Bowser-Suchard at Bridgend, Wales. The history of Altoids actually dates back to the reign of King George III. The brand was created by a London-based Smith & Company in the 1780s but eventually became part of the Callard & Bowser company in the 1800s. They are still advertised as “The Original Celebrated Curiously Strong Peppermints.”

Take the oscillating innards of an Oral-B electric toothbrush, shoehorn them into an Altoids tin, and what do you have? A curiously strong vibrator, that's what. The Homemade Sex Toys site has full step-by-step instructions. It's yet another use for the improbably versatile and useful Altoids box. more

Altoids mints are currently available in the following flavors: The dark chocolate dipped mints: "classic peppermint", "fiery cinnamon", and "spicy ginger". The original flavors: peppermint, wintergreen, spearmint, and cinnamon. "Specialty flavors", ginger mints and liquorice mints, were ... created and sell in the same size and shape as the originals. Limited edition sets of tins are also available. The first displayed artists' prints from Altoids' "Curiously Strong Art Collection" and was a set of three. The second featured slightly-altered pictures of images from previous centuries. The third and current limited edition set featured three pop culture choices— minor characters from the The Year Without a Santa Clause and Rudolf, the Red-nosed Reindeer/ claymation holiday specials, as well as the more popular icon Curious George.

Altoids had launched this perplexing television advertisement campaign to promote its brand image. The campaign is apparently aiming to show odd humor with specific stress on promoting the new chocolate covered Altoids. There four television advertisements in the series named, Curious, Banana Hands, Australian Double Back, and Half Deer Edwards. The advertisement bearing title curious is quite strange as it features a man with hole in his head at its back. The campaign was launched specifically to lay emphasis on chocolate covered Altoids along with other abnormalities.

Altoids fans will be pleased to learn that the company has launched several Altoids Curious and Original Chocolate Shoppes in the spirit of Valentine's Day. Actually, they're anti-Valentine's Day. Each of the three temporary "pop-up stores" is billing itself as a "sanctuary from all the romantic overtures" for the "lovesick, lovelorn and Cupid-wary."

Altoids ... worked with prominent graffiti luminaries Lady Pink, Smith, Cycle and the authors/photographers of Broken Windows Karla and Jim Murray to select 15 artists for a “Wall of Fame” in New York City. In New York, Dalek, Dona, Doze, Erni, West, Muck, Yes, Ces, Rebel, Daze, Ezo, Skwerm, Kenji, Leia and Bisc teamed up to paint in pairs aligning different styles in a way never before done in New York and with many artists that have never collaborated together before this project. The artists designed and installed a mural on a gigantic wall in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York at Bedford and North 4th Street. The New York Curiously Strong “Wall of Fame” was unveiled to the public at a reception on June 3 at Pierogi Gallery in Williamsburg.
