Alpine Racer's visual presentation is stunning. The artists have rendered all three courses beautifully, giving each course its own character and style. Whether racing in the straight downhill or in the slalom-style gate race, you are constantly barraged with terrific graphics. From the snow to the trees to the billboards, this game looks great. Alpine Racer has one of the best graphics packages of any 1995 Arcade game and is probably one of the best of the 1990s.

Alpine Racer is a 3D Alpine skiing arcade game released by Namco in 1995. It features downhill and gate with three courses and two play modes - Race and Time Attack. The player stands on a set of ski-like foot stands while holding onto two bars for stability to play.

The PlayStation 2 version of Namco's arcade smash Alpine Racer 3 gives you nine different courses to test your downhill skiing/snowboarding skills, all of which use satellite data to faithfully recreate actual courses from the Alps. As you hurl yourself off near-vertical drops and lean at seemingly-impossible angles into yet another sharply-cambered bend, with the safety netting flapping in the periphery of your vision, you may just about find time to recognise the runs from the arcade original--as well as many more, created specially for this version. And if that's not enough, there's ... a trickily futuristic man-made course to really test your abilities. Each course is packed with trackside objects and obstacles that can help or hinder your progress, and you'll even find that weather conditions vary from one run to the next, from clear, bright sunshine to biting blizzards and even the occasional plume of snow from an avalanche. You'll need all your concentration as you hurtle downhill at blistering speeds, trying to pick the right racing lines and master the bends and jumps--but you'll be pleased to know there's a context sensitive commentary to let you know exactly how well you're doing. There are eight different characters to choose from, each of whom has a unique mix of attributes and abilities.

Realistic graphics, sounds, and controls put video gamers in a truly interactive situation, making Alpine Racer one of the best skiing simulations ever developed. To be any more realistic, the game would have to launch small ice particles from the screen. So until developers introduce such technology into arcades, Alpine Racer is your best bet for realistic snow skiing.

Buzbee had an outstanding GS race, according AVSC J-3 alpine coach Molly Tarbet. "Stephen was 3rd overall after a great first run and he wound up winning by the closest margin I've seen, only 2/100ths of a second." Buzbee had another solid finish in Wednesday's Super-G race, coming in 5th overall out of 101 competitors. "I expected him to do well, but a couple of mistakes kept him off the podium in Super-G," said Tarbet. Even so, the win and the top-10 finish gave Buzbee a berth on Team USA representing the Rocky Mountain Division at the international Whistler Cup in B.C. the last week of March.

The academy is a new and exciting addition to the alpine programs run by International Racer. The academy will provide an excellent alpine training program free of the difficulties junior racers generally have with a long term program in Europe. Sun Peaks is the training base for the Austrian team while in North America. It is ... an excellent base location to chase the many FIS alpine races occurring in Western Canada during the 2007/2008 winter.
