Almost Famous

Almost Famous is the true story of the director Cameron Crowe. In the movie William Miller (who represents Crowe as a child) is in his senior year of highscool at the age of 15. The same was true for Crowe. During the beginning of the film William Miller is seen leaving the school parking lot and in the background is a sign that says "William Miller is too young to drive or fu*k." Well, the interesting thing about this is that a sign was actually put up at Crowes highschool that said that about him when he was a senior.

The venue for Almost Famous is Alcazar, one of the fine stages in the Nalen building. The adress is David Bagares Gata 15, just a few blocks away from Stureplan in the very centre of Stockholm. The entrance is free and doors open at 7 p.m. It might be a good idea to come early, many of the nights have ended up very crowded with people. And remember that you have to be 18 years old to get in.

[A]s previously stated, Almost Famous does have its flaws. Biopic or spin pic, Almost Famous comes off as oftentimes a contrived comedy injected like bad heroin into an otherwise thoughtful drama, and it almost overdoses on this clichéd comedy more than a few times. It’s as if Crowe challenges us to think, and then tells our brains to shut the hell up as we watch Fairuza Balk slam headfirst into a concrete barrier (and then ironically turn up on the bus the next day without a scratch). And while this blend of brain candy and food for thought might be fine for most people, I’d rather Crowe had chosen one path or the other, instead of having one that ends up striking the audience as useless and unfunny.

The buzz from Almost Famous has pegged Billy Crudup as the "next big thing." He was superb, and charming, and sexy. But Ifelt as though his character played off of William's, rather than being any sort of "breakout"opportunity. His Russell becomes first a big brother to William, then grows into a true friendship. Egged on by Mom (Frances McDormand), Russell seems to get the message that it is not too late to become human.
