Blonsky will play Rhonda, the awkward best friend of balding teen Harold (Spencer Breslin), while Sheedy plays Maureen, Harold's mother who helps her prematurely aging son cope with incessant teasing. Quinn portrays a drunken barfly who's a regular at a strip club Harold frequents, and Cuba Gooding Jr., who is one of the movie's producers... appears as a school janitor who befriends Harold. Filming just got underway in Great Neck, N.Y., Blonsky's hometown. The 18-year-old actress said she had no idea they would be filming there when she signed onto the project. It is Blonsky's first role since she landed the starring role as Tracy Turnblad in musical feature Hairspray.

From All Movie Guide: Brown-eyed, chestnut-haired actress Ally Sheedy has been involved with acting for most of her life. The daughter of a literary agent mother, she began making commercials and appearing on-stage at the age of 15. She was something of a precocious author, as well: When only 12-years-old, she published a children's book, She Was Nice to Mice. (Sheedy has ... been published in such periodicals as The New York Times). After high school, the New York-born actress headed west to the University of California where, in addition to her studies, she appeared in TV movies. She began her feature-film career at 21 playing adolescent girls in films such as Bad Boys and WarGames (both 1983), and joined the so-called Brat Pack in 1985 after appearing in John Hughes' The Breakfast Club and Joel Schumacher's St. Elmo's Fire.

Unsettlingly thin, Sheedy established herself as a viable contender merely because she so vividly looked the part. A strong delivery clinched for her the role of Lucy Berliner, a dissolute, once-celebrated photographer living with her junkie girlfriend; she further troubles the already troubled relationship by seducing a young photo editor who wants to revive Lucys career.
