TALLAHASSE, Florida Allstate Foundation today announced a donation of $5,000 to the Florida Stay Alive From Education (S.A.F.E.) Corporation. Using local police, fire, and EMS personnel, the S.A.F.E. program stages mock automobile crashes in middle and high schools and on college campuses to illustrate possible consequences of driving under the influence. S.A.F.E. helped reduce Leon County traffic fatalities by 78% in 1998.

The Allstate Corporation (NYSE:ALL) today announced Michele Coleman Mayes has been named to succeed retiring Senior Vice President and General Counsel Michael J. "Mick" McCabe. Mayes, formerly senior vice president and general counsel for Pitney Bowes, will lead AllstateĆ¢€™s Law and Regulation department, which plays an integral role in guiding Allstate's business strategy.

In 1952, Sears introduced the Allstate automobile. Built by the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation, the Allstate automobile came in two models: The Standard ($1,395) and the Delux ($1,796) models came with a choice of optional four- or six-cylinder engines and a transmission overdrive. All automobiles came with a 90-day guarantee. As popular as the insurance and accessories were... few people wanted to buy an entire car with the Allstate name. Disappointing sales caused the Allstate automobile to disappear from Sears stores after 1953.
