Emmy Award winner Allison Janney will play Prudy Pingleton in the film version of the Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray. Directed by Adam Shankman, the movie will begin shooting this fall and is expected to open on December 21, 2007.

Previously, Janney starred opposite Meryl Streep in �The Hours,� which received a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture. Janney's second Broadway part was in Arthur Miller's "View From the Bridge," and again she came through with flying colors. She received a Tony nomination, the Outer Critics Circle award and the Drama Desk award for Best Supporting Actress of 1998.
