Allen Iverson: Team
built 222 days ago
Although he's been out of the city since being traded last winter, it's still nice to see what Allen Iverson is up to nowadays. (Remember him? #1 pick? Led the team to the 2001 Finals? Come on, that wasn't that long ago! The city went nuts for it!

Allen blew Thompson and his fellow Hoyas away when the team started practicing. He had not played organized ball in almost two years, yet rather than diminishing his skills, the time off had only amplified them. He was bigger, faster, stronger and more aggressive, and he was playing for survival. Allen would shake his man at the perimeter, slice toward the basket, elevate from 12 feet out, and then slam the ball home as he soared past players several inches taller. At the other end, Allen would snatch rebounds away from the power forwards and centers, and then beat everyone down the floor on the break.

In a life that hadn't been a "sunshine story", Iverson was left standing in the middle of a brawl between black and white students in a bowling alley. One Valenite's Day, Iverson and some friends - all jocks and black - walked into a Hampton Bowling Alley. Allen was already a local sports hero, having quarterbacked Bethel High School's football team to the state championship only two months earlier, and in the process of leading the basketball squad to the same trophy. He was probably the best known person in the city that night.

There are many different opinions on Allen Iverson the basketball player. While he scores many points, he ... shoots a below average field goal percentage(though it also has to be noted that for the major part of his career, he hasn't had good offensive players as teammates). Iverson has often been criticized as being a ball hog, especially early in his career. His career field goal percentage is currently 41.9. When he drives to the basket, he is extremely good at laying the ball up high off the glass in order to avoid getting blocked. He uses his elbow to create space for the layup.

Iverson has made a name for himself the previous summer. At the Nike Camp in Indianapolis, and at four others, he earned the MVP trophy as a member of Bo Williams' team. In fact, Nike continued treating him as a celebrity during the trial, sending an extra set of plane tickets so that Iverson would not miss any camp activities while the trial was in progress. (Prosecutors used this special privilege to urge jurors to Just Do It to Iverson and Nike, which they did.)

On November 29, 2006 following a conflict at practice, Iverson stormed out of the gymnasium. That same evening, Iverson missed a corporate sponsor night at Lucky Strike Lanes in Philadelphia. All the 76ers besides Iverson attended this mandatory event. Iverson was fined an undisclosed amount by the 76ers. Iverson claimed he overslept after taking medication for pain related to having two abscessed teeth pulled but it was reported that Iverson told teammates earlier in the day he planned to blow off the event and was simply going to take the fine.[7]
