As the 2007-2008 NBA campaign is almost here Allen Iverson even though now living in Colorado should be starting to feel the heat. Last year preseason everyone new Allen Iverson or no Allen Iverson the Philadelphia 76ers were either about an 8 seed or less even in the lowly Eastern Conference. Then it happened Allen Iverson’s demand was answered and the Denver Nuggets came calling. With half a year including playoff experience the expectations should be higher than it seems they are, and this team is only built to win now.

Iverson will make $17.1 million this season, $19 million next season and $20.8 million in the 2008-09 season. The Nuggets could be well over the luxury tax entering next season at about $78.6 million in total payroll. That amount does not include potential performance bonuses for Marcus Camby, who could receive another $1 million. Earl Boykins has a player option for $3 million next season, and the Nuggets hold the $4.9 million option for Eduardo Najera.

USA TODAY's Jon Saraceno recently had the opportunity to sit down with Allen Iverson. The nine-time NBA All-Star was getting a rubdown in the trainer's room prior to a Denver Nuggets game. At 32, the complex little tough-guy guard seems to have made strides at maturing. Here is an edited version of that interview.

Iverson dropped 23 while Carmelo Anthony contributed 28 in a victory for the Nuggets. They were dishing out passes to each other all night, and looked like a solid duo that had been playing together for years.
