With the exception of mussels, all the main product categories (oysters, scallops, clams and cockles) reached record production levels in 2001. Global oyster production amounted to 4.4 million MT, 4% up on the figure for 2000. Production of clams, cockles and arkshells was up 14% (to 3.9 million MT), while scallop output in 2001 was up 6% on 2000 and 23% on 1999. In contrast, global mussel production in 2001 increased marginally to 1.6 million MT and was, in fact, down 2% on the 1999 level. However, the broad trend in mussel production is positive. Having fluctuated around 1.3 million MT for a number of years up to 1997, mussel production has increased significantly since then.

Warner Home Video’s two-disc special edition DVD of All the President’s Men is a solid upgrade from the bare-bones 1997 edition, which featured a disappointing picture transfer. The image has been transferred at a higher bit-rate with better compression, giving the intentionally grainy look of the film a more organic appearance. Except for minor signs of source-material wear, the images have their intended crispness and appropriate contrasts. The monaural soundtrack is clear of distortion and has a pleasing bass quality.

Has the generation gap gotten larger because of technology as children stereotypically become more technologically advanced than their parents? Does the father’s inability to use technology ... isolate him from his family? Is the Verizon spokesperson’s accusation of the radio commentator creating undo attention warranted?

All the President’s men and all the President’s women could not put Yusay into the Majlis - it’s true! All the Cabinet Ministers, their wives, President Gayyoom himself and his family campaigned hard on Yusay’s behalf but the result was not one would write home about. Even with all the big guns behind him Yusay lost the election by a landslide.
