Unlike a help group, Divorce Chat rooms have the added advantage that no-one knows what you look like. You can chat with someone about your divorce from the comfort of your own home, but still retain your anonymity.

If you are just getting started, begin by clicking on the "Open Chat Room" button in the main toolbar. This will bring up the Chat Preferences window. If your version of the software is not registered, you will first get two dialog boxes asking you for a nickname and real name. All the default connection setting for connecting to the Investor/RT Chat Room will be filled in for you (#linnsoft, irc.othernet.org, 6667, null, etc). You may want to change some of the preferences on the right, including font, colors etc. Once you have your preferences set, you are ready to connect.

In many chat rooms, anyone can set or change the topic. The topic appears in the client's title bar right after the chat room's name and makes it easy for new comers to see the current topic of discussion. Not all rooms have topics and not all rooms are enabled to allow topic changing. The channel operator determines who can change the topic for any room.

Some of the bigger dating sites either ignore gays and lesbians or make it difficult to find listings and chat rooms for gays. Going to sites that specifically cater to lesbians is much less time consuming and you're much more likely to find kindred spirits there.
