Husky-voiced chanteuse Alison Moyet achieved her greatest success with Vince Clarke under their dance-pop duo, Yaz, but her career as a solo artist didn't maintain such momentum. The Essential looks back on this talented singer with the inclusion of only the most sophisticated tracks from her 20-plus career, regardless of her fluctuating popularity. The Yaz classic "Don't Go" kicks things off; ... Moyet's moody aura carries the collection with songs such as "Love Resurrection," "Wishing You Were Here," and "Weak in the Presence of Beauty." Loyal Alison Moyet fans will most likely own everything featured here, but those wanting a nice introduction to the soulful singer should find The Essential a good place to start. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Alison Moyet Tribute Artiste - Jacquie Cann Alison Moyet began with local punk bands before joining up with Vince Clarke to form Yazoo. The band had a string of hits and two albums of Electro pop before going their own separate ways in 1983. Clarke went on to form Erasure and Moyet moved on to a solo career.
Born in Billericay, Essex, Alison grew up in Basildon and left school at sixteen largely unqualified. She spent time as a shop worker before embarking on a piano tuning course which she had to abort in the second year as the single, Only You, became a worldwide hit. This new found fame was alongside electronic innovator, Vince Clarke in the band Yazoo. Together, they redefined dance music, merging the cold soundscapes of synthesized music with sweet soul music. However, after two albums, and a Brit Award for Best New Band, it was time for Alison to move on.

In 1983 Moyet and Clarke decided to disband Yazoo. While Clarke went on to form The Assembly and then Erasure, Moyet signed to CBS (in part because it had been Janis Joplin's label), and began her solo career. Moyet will be reuniting with Clarke as Yazoo for a series of live dates during 2008.
alison_use.jpg It's not every day you get the chance to question the likes of Alison Moyet. The Essex born singer began her musical career in a number of punk rock, pub rock and blues bands and later joined Vince Clarke (Depehce Mode) to form Yazoo. Two albums and several hits later, Moyet took a turn down the solo path and emerged with a backlog of hits and a West End theatre role or two under her firmly tighetened belt.
Alison Moyet The Turn In 1981 Moyet formed synthpop duo Yazoo with Vince Clarke, formerly of Depeche Mode. The combination of Moyet’s rich voice and Clarke’s electronica proved phenomenally popular; Yazoo’s first single ‘Only You’ reached number two in the charts, their first album Upstairs At Eric’s went platinum in 1982 and their second, You And Me Both, reached number one in 1983, earning them a Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act.
