Alien Syndrome: Game
built 186 days ago
Alien Syndrome is a fast-paced action-RPG with shooter elements, set in a stunning sci-fi universe. The game features two fast-paced action-RPG modes ? the dramatic and engaging single-player campaign, plus an infinitely replayable co-op multiplayer mode for up to four players. Derived from the classic SEGA arcade game, Alien Syndrome's new sci-fi action-RPG shooter gameplay makes it easy to pick up and play, while its depth and wealth of features and missions keeps it challenging for all gamers.

Unfortunately Alien Syndrome is every bit as bad as all of the other Sega resurrections. It`s an ugly pile of sci-fi action complete with repetitive gameplay, boring level designs and a severe lack of originality. On paper it all sounds good, it`s essentially Diablo in space, but Sega is never able to capitalize on the strengths of the classic arcade game and turn this into anything more than just another boring overhead action game.
As is quickly becoming a trend, Alien Syndrome banks on an old name to present a new game without really paying too much attention to the source material. There arealiens in space that harbora terrible scourge called the Alien Syndrome and they'recausing carnage, and it's up to you and your arsenal of weapons to stop them. That's pretty much all there is to know.

Screenshot Alien Syndrome has lost much colour in its conversion to the Spectrum, it loses nothing in gameplay. The graphics are cute and quite varied. The massive alien at the end of each level is well-drawn and its animation is surprisingly smooth as it spews forth red gunge at you (which Nick mistook for Cherry Coke...). Unfortunately 128K owners get no extra music because 48K BASIC must be selected to load the program. Nevertheless, the existing sound FX are atmospheric enough without the need for snazzy title tunes. What really makes Alien Syndrome so playable is its concept.
Alien Syndrome is based on the Arcade game of the same name. The story line and game play are both standard features found in other shooters of this type. ~ Jonathan Sutyak, All Game Guide

"Alien Syndrome" is an update of a 20-year-old arcade game. Instead of sticking to that game's pure action roots, this version adds some role-playing elements. The game works kind of like "Champions of Norrath" or "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance." It takes guns and aliens, adds experience points, character levels and ever-increasing abilities, but forgoes the actual role-playing elements, such as quests. At the start of the game, the player picks a class for the main character, Lt. Aileen Harding. This affects her starting attributes and proficiencies, and starting weapon.
