Alien Hominid: Games

Alien Hominid The Behemoth's Alien Hominid is a 2D side-scrolling action game borrowing the best elements from games like Metal Slug. It is a very old school style game meant to bring some rarely seen 2D goodness to the market. In North America, it was released for the PS2 and GameCube. When it was released in Europe 6 months later, it was released for the PS2 and Xbox.
Alien Hominid from The Behemoth Alien Hominid is 2D side-scrolling game developed by The Behemoth and published by O~3 Entertainment (http://www.o3entertainment.com/). In the game, an alien crashes his ship on Earth and you have to help him retrieve it. Armed with a gun, you have to shoot through hundreds of enemies in various sizes to retrieve your ship. You can learn more about the game at the official website http://www.alienhominid.com.
The combination of old-school action and Alien Hominid's unique hand-drawn, hand-animated style has already made the game a huge success. The original Flash version of Alien Hominid has to date been downloaded nearly 10,000,000 times. The game ... picked up three out of the six awards at the 2005 Independent Games Festival in San Francisco.

In the course of two years, Alien Hominid became a much larger project than its online prototype. Whilst 3D graphics were considered initially, The Behemoth decided nothing compared to the traditional 2D stylings of the prototype. The art of Paladin, who drew all visual aspects of the game by hand, became much more refined (though still cartoon-like and inviting). The project was entirely re-coded for consoles, and many new gameplay features were created. The final product contained sixteen stages (set in three different locations), each containing hundreds of enemies and numerous bosses. Six minigames were ... added, the "PDA Game," with 200 different levels and a level editor, "All You Can Eat", "Super Soviet Missile Mastar", "Challenge", "Neutron Ball" and "Pinata Boss". Matt Harwood of Petrified Productions, who had previously worked with Paladin, created all of the music for the game.
Will the console version of Alien Hominid capture the imaginations of shooter fans? Behemoth is counting on it. Remember, this IS NOT the version you may have downloaded. More animations, levels and other tweaks exist in the console version that were not present in the original. Not sure on a price point for this game, but if it's budget conscious, it could make Behemoth a contender indeed. Look for the game on the GC and PS2 this October.

Alien Hominid for the Sony PlayStation 2 As with most side-scrolling shooters, such as the Metal Slug series, Alien Hominid is pretty difficult by today’s standards. Newcomers should really think about setting the game on Easy mode because jumping into Normal mode is a one-way ticket to frustration. Even more experienced gamers will go through lives quickly given the game’s “one-hit, you’re dead” setup. Obtaining shields helps to offset this, but it’s still a tough road.
