Alien Hominid HD is a great treat for retro-loving gamers. Admittedly, if you’ve played the game already, there’s little reason to buy it again. For 800 points... fans of the original won’t be breaking the bank to relive the chaos, and newcomers will find a quirky and unique take on classic gameplay.

The most striking feature of Alien Hominid HD is the amazing graphics. Everything is so clean looking and drawn with a great style, it is hard not to love the game based on the visuals alone.

Alien Hominid HD is the high-definition remake of the console released game, featuring 16 levels in 3 different locations, as well as a half-dozen weird mini-games to keep you busy. The game is easily and often compared to the obvious side-scrolling shooter classics like Metal Slug or Contra (the latter is ... available on the Live Arcade), but its novel premise, unique visuals and perverse sense of humour really make it stand on its own. In fact the eye-popping HD visuals really jump off the screen in a way the Xbox version never quite managed, and there's so much carnage on screen at any one time that it's almost enough to send you into an eye-candy induced coma.

It’s unfortunate that the music doesn’t quite hold up to the previous versions, because the graphics in Alien Hominid HD are just that: High Definition. It looks absolutely great on a quality display, and it’s almost single-handed proof that 2D games are still extremely viable on these HD-capable systems.
