Southern California-based alt-metal band Alien Ant Farm was formed in 1996 by singer Dryden Mitchell, guitarist Terry Corso, bassist Tye Zamora and drummer Mike Cosgrove. They released their debut album, Greatest Hits, independently in 1999. The album went on to win the Best Independent Album at the L.A. Music Awards, and Alien Ant Farm signed with New Noize/DreamWorks Records. They released ANThology in 2001, which featured their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal." The album went platinum, selling more than three million copies worldwide.

Despite the apparently political connotations of this record, Alien Ant Farm truly relies on the interesting and conflicting relationship between contemporary alternative metal and sentiments of life and fantasy. Constructed on the premise of establishing emotion through music, ANThology essentially is emotions and aesthetics for the insecure, creating a barrage of power-driven riffs overlaid with instances of vulnerability and the typical and ambiguous questions of the self.

The current lineup of Alien Ant Farm does not exist because they do not exist. However, at the time of their release, the band was comprised of four men who did not own a razor between them.

[W]hat is one to make of Alien Ant Farm's playing truANT from the schoolyard of rock? Well, it doesn't always work and sometimes they run the real danger of playing songs that are too off-kilter for the majority of their fans to know what to do with. However, they definitely have the tunes while their versatility can only be applauded, particularly as it is a quality lacking in many of their peers.

It is believed by Alien Ant Farms that the hidden track is involved with the same game of hide-and-seek that George W. Bush, Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are playing. George Dubya is currently searching, and Saddam Hussein has been the only player found. The game is predicted to be completed within 10 years.
