Alicia Keys grabbed control of Billboard's Hot RnB/Hip-Hop chart 9 weeks ago and hasn't let go since. Her smash single "No One" reigns supreme on the chart again this week (for the 9th week in a row) as well as holding onto the #1 slot on the Hot 100 chart for the 3rd week in a row. John and Alicia met in an Advanced Calculus for Engineers class, but became a couple after Nash encountered Alicia at the university's music library, where she worked. Nasar points out that the two shared far more than an attraction: they were both close to their mothers; grew up in houses where intellectual achievement and status were supreme; and were both outsiders. These attractions pulled the two together in marriage in 1957.

After three years of familial turmoil, Alicia filed for divorce, something that the Hollywood version of Nash's life left out. With the help of her mother, Alicia raised their son John on her own. Later he, too, turned out to have schizophrenia. In 1970 a decade after the divorce and with her ex-husband struggling just to survive, Alicia took him into her home not as a husband but as what she called her " boarder."

Alicia loved people and loved helping people. She was very involved with her church and church activities. She loved to go to Sunday School, sing a solo on Sunday morning, and work with her Grandma Stella in the church food pantry. Alicia and her Grandma would spend hours packing the boxes of food for people. Although her Grandma had a specific way to nutritionally pack the boxes, Alicia would always add her loving touch by making sure each box contained candy.

On Galveston's West Beach, Alicia moved the public beach boundary back an average of 150'. The storm surge scoured up to 5' of sand from the beach and left several homes in front of the natural vegetation line and technically on the public beach. Thus, the homes were in violation of the Texas Open Beaches Act and the Attorney General's office forebade the repair or rebuilding of those homes.
