Molik starts on serve with her power serves , but Justine get´s a good return hit 15-40. Justine closes in forward to receive and gets a breakpoint 1-0. Great serves from Justine, and she holds 2-0. Molik is hitting nice serves, but the Henin return groundstrokes are too early, and out of reach 3-0. More sharp Belgian serves 4-0. Alicia back on serve, and keeping in this set 4-1.

Alicia ... made a return to doubles this tournament partnering Svetlana Kuznetsova they were seeded 2 for the tournament and a real chance for the title. An interesting fact about Sveta (as she is known on tour) is she is the first singles winner in the open era to be defeated in the first round the next year. Sveta came up against another talented Russian Ekaterina Bychkova and she lost in straight sets.

Molik, whose current WTA ranking is 14, encountered a tough challenge in a sea-sawed first set. In the sixth game, Molik broke Diaz-Oliva's service but was broken in the next. The set was stretched to a tie-breaker, in which she easily gave up after coming by only one point

With two serves to come at 4-3 Molik appeared to have snatched the upper hand, but the prospect of an upset proved too much to bear. Three forehand errors saw Williams regain the momentum and serve out the set at the first opportunity with an ace.

In the second set, right-handed Molik rallied back to force her opponent into another tie-breaker, and won at 7-4. In the decider, the semifinalist at 2004 Olympics was broken in the first game and trailed all the way to give in at 6-4.
