Alicia Machado has been the most publicized Miss Universe. It made so much news around the globe that in the 1997 Miss Universe one of the questions to the contestants was "Do you think if the elected Miss Universe gains weight, should she be disqualified as Miss Universe?" to which all answered "No" because whether she, Miss Universe, gains weight or not, she's still the same person.

Alicia Machado was born on 6th December, 1976 in Yaracuy, Venezuela. She is the 4th woman from Venezuela to win the Miss Universe crown. She won the Miss Venezuela 1995 pageant representing Yaracuy. Though she was not quite the favourite during the Miss Venezuela contest yet she defied all those for whom she was not their favourite by her continuous hard work for this contest and training herself hard, up to 14 hours a day which included catwalking, picture posing, oratory, English, etc...Ultimately she swept away the Miss Universe crown.....

Alicia Machado did not want to be remembered as the Miss Universe who was overweight. And indeed, history suggests that she was partly a victim of changing tastes. Many of the early Miss Universes, while certainly beautiful, would look heavy on a pageant stage of the 1990s. Thinner women are now in vogue, and the English word "buxom," which was once a compliment to a woman's figure, is now rarely used.
