She was born to a White mother, Terri Augello, and a Black father, Craig Cook and was raised in the Hell's Kitchen section of New York City. Alicic was born to be a music star. At a very tender age of four she gave a start to her career with a role in "Wizard of Oz" . One of the most important influence in her life to whom can be credited the entire success of Alicia is her mother. She was very strict for her music lessons.

R&B singer Alicia Keys released her first album, Songs in A Minor, in 2001. She was only 20 years old. The album featured the hit singles "Fallin'" and "Girlfriend" and rocketed Keys to stardom. (Her good looks -- she's of African and Italian descent -- helped, too.) She won five Grammy awards in 2002, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Fallin'." Keys ... has been a prolific soundtrack artist, recording songs for movies such as Men in Black (1997), Shaft (2000) and Dr. Doolittle 2 (2001). She has also appeared in the movies in acting roles. After a contract bidding war, Alicia Keys was signed to Arista Records. When music business legend Clive Davis left Arista to start J Records, Keys went with him. She wrote, produced, and performed the album Songs In A Minor, released in 2001. The album was almost an instant success.
