Alfred Kinsey: Sex
built 178 days ago
Whatever one's opinion of Alfred Kinsey—and he remains controversial—before he came along, scientific understanding of human sexuality was virtually nonexistent. There was only assumption, myth, and cultural bias. After Kinsey, the ice was broken.
Certainly, the prevailing propaganda was that "nice girls didn't". The attempts to discredit the Kinsey Report confirm that powerful forces wanted that status quo to remain. But presumably, for both women and men, privately having sex that they both liked, there must have been a suspicion that all this was more myth than reality anyway.
Kinsey actually lobbied and testified before numerous state legislatures arguing that the age of consent should be lowered to age 10. Kinsey put forth the preposterous idea that the only harm resulting from adult-child sexual relationships was society’s reaction and condemnation, which he claimed was a perspective born out of ignorance and not “science.” Kinsey went so far as to suggest that such relationships would in fact be beneficial to children if society would simply encourage these liaisons and abandon their repressive morality.
According to reports of the time, the Kinsey Report "shocked" and "dumbfounded" the nation. The reason was simple: Americans knew that this information did not fit their own conceptions of sexual mores and behavior.
Let's talk about sex; In an era when talking about sex was taboo, Alfred Kinsey's research into sexual behaviour sent shockwaves across the world. Now a film about him is causing controversy once again, says Andrew Wilson .

Kinsey wrote to King, coaxing him to send his detailed diaries of his sexual exploits, including those with children. Jones reports that on Nov. 24, 1944, for example, Kinsey wrote, "I rejoice at everything you send, for I am then assured that that much more of your material is saved for scientific publication."....[And Reisman] alleges that Kinsey continued to correspond with King until 1954, and she points out that Kinsey ... corresponded with Fritz von Balluseck, a German pedophile and former Nazi who was tried for murder.1
