Alfie stepped up to the edge of the Rainbow. He felt the love of the Company of Kiddens behind him, around him. He closed his eyes and lifted his voice. He sang of morning snuggles and sunny afternoons, of the tender scritches and quiet moments, but mostly he sang of the Promise and of waiting.

Around the same time, as he arrives to Julie's place looking for another booty call, Alfie is informed she no longer wants to see him since she found the proof of his infidelity (Dorie's red panties). He seems to take it all in stride with a smile on his face as he's disappears down her street.

Alfie speaks directly to the camera, breaking through the fourth wall to apprise audience members of his private thoughts in a given situation. This technique, along with putting the title credits at the end of the film, was probably fairly unusual, even innovative, at the time. And it provides a shortcut into Alfie's mind, through which viewers can see for themselves that there is a sensitive soul at the core of the cad.
