On July 30th, Maserati North America boss unveiled the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione for the North American market at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance. The 8C, which is powered by a 4.7 liter V8 engine producing 450 horsepower, will cost somewhere higher than $200,000.

Beginning in late 2009, FIAT GROUP AUTOMOBILES will introduce WORLDSPACE satellite radios as factory-installed (OEM) optional equipment on certain of its Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models. In addition, FIAT GROUP AUTOMOBILES will be able to offer WORLDSPACE portable satellite radio receivers to its customers through its aftermarket channel.

There's a choice of two petrol engines and two diesels with the Alfa Romeo 147. The smallest, a 1.6-litre petrol with just 120bhp, can run out of puff fairly quickly. By comparison the two-litre with 150bhp is extremely eager with lots of flexibility and torque. However, the 1.9-litre diesels are even better. Even the 115bhp has huge amounts of torque, and its overtaking power in second and third is outstanding. The 150bhp version is a proper hot hatch, reaching 60mph in just under nine seconds..

If Alfa Romeo is serious about competing with Germany’s premium labels it will eventually have to drop its FWD only lineup. Latest reports claim that is exactly what’s going to happen over the next couple of years as Alfa updates its lineup and prepares for its re-launch in North America.
