Alexis Bledel is a very special woman. Her first acting job ever was for the television series, Gilmore Girls. She was a model before this and was working for a catalog company that would send her all over the world to do fashion modelling. She got used to all of the attention and decided that she wanted get into acting instead of modelling because a models' career is so limited in length. In her free time she writes poetry and takes pictures and goes out and stuff. English is her second language because both of her parents are Latin American in decent although she doesn't look it. Her father is originally from Argentina where there are more more people from Northern European decent.

''I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can do,'' says the Houston native, 25, who trades Stars Hollow for sleepy Mud Meadows in I'm Reed Fish. In the June 1 indie, she plays a woman dealing with her mother's death and a crumbling engagement. Though Bledel has been in films before (2002's Tuck Everlasting, 2005's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants), she insists, ''I don't want to go too commercial.'' Well, unless the right action-flick script falls into her lap: ''Imagine [me in] a Carrie-Anne Moss Matrix kind of thing!''

Alexis Bledel made her way into the entertainment business as an actress in the Texan theatre scene before becoming a model in her teen years. Modeling proved promising for Alexis who found herself modeling at fashion shows in New York, Tokyo, Milan, and Los Angeles while still in high school. Upon graduation, she enrolled in film studies at NYU only to move to Hollywood a year later. There she quickly won the role of Rory Gilmore in The WB's Gilmore Girls.

Alexis Bledel was born in Houston, Texas. Her father, Martin Bledel, is Argentinian and her mother, Janette Blake, is Mexican.[1] She has one younger brother, Eric, born 1986. Her first language is Spanish, and she did not learn English until she began school. In fact, America Ferrera was surprised during an interview with a Spanish magazine when Bledel started speaking Spanish.[2] Bledel's mother encouraged her to try community theater when she was a child to overcome her shyness.[3] She subsequently appeared in local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz before being scouted at a local mall and given work as a fashion model. She attended St. Agnes Academy in Houston and is a Roman Catholic.[4]
