From All Movie Guide: Canadian leading lady Alexandra Stewart studied acting in Paris, where she launched her film career in 1958's Les Monards. An intriguing combination of high intelligence and earthy sensuality, Alexandra quickly became a favorite amongst the New Wave directors of the 1960s. She may well be the only actress who can boast of having been directed by Francois Truffaut (The Bride Wore Black, Day for Night), Roger Vadim (Les Liaisons Dangereuse), Otto Preminger (Exodus), Arthur Penn (Mickey One), and the artist formerly known as Prince (Under a Cherry Moon). On television, Alexandra Stewart was seen in the miniseries Mistral's Daughter (1984) and Sins (1986). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Looking down the glen at Glen Lyon. Picture by Chas Webb Alexandra Stewart died at the age of ninety five in 1991, one of eight sisters, the majority of whom lived to over ninety and one, Jean, to over one hundred. When Alexandra died she was widely believed to be the last native Gaelic speaker in Perthshire. In ‘The Daughters of the Glen’ she paints an evocative picture of life in Glenlyon and some of the characters who lived there when she was a young girl.
At a dinner party back in Paris hosted by her friend Amanda (Alexandra Stewart), it emerges that Marie and Jean were married for 25 years. Disquietingly, Marie still speaks of Jean as if he's alive and, after a friend, Vincent (Jacques Nolot), drives her home, Jean appears in the apartment, climbs into bed with her and later appears at breakfast.

During the RSC's fall 2006 residency in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Stewart made an appearance at the Ball State vs. University of Michigan gridiron football game. He directed the Michigan Marching Band to the Star Trek theme song during their halftime show, then told the Wolverines "to boldly go, and beat the Buckeyes!", and after a quieting of the crowd, "Make it so, number one!" This was a reference to his trademark Star Trek phrase as well as Michigan's upcoming game against the (at that time) AP #1 ranked Ohio State University gridiron football team. Michigan would go on to lose a close, high-scoring game 39-42. Stewart is a lifelong supporter of Huddersfield Town Football Club.[16]
