Alexander Mackenzie: Pacific Ocean

Returning to England in 1791, Mackenzie studied surveying and astronomy in preparation for his goal to reach the Pacific. He returned to Lake Athabasca in 1792 and made his way to Fort Fork at the junction of the Peace and Smoky Rivers. In May of 1793, he set out for the Pacific in a 25 foot canoe with nine men and 3,000 lbs. of equipment.

Golfing The town was named after the famous explorer Alexander Mackenzie, who camped near the townsite on his epic journey to the Pacific in 1793. The District of Mackenzie was virtually carved out of the wilderness in the mid 1960’s to service large pulp and lumber manufacturing facilities. Forest industry operations continue as the primary economic engine of Mackenzie.
[O]n May 9, 1793, Mackenzie, with nine others, packed into a 25-foot canoe at Fort Fork along the Peace River for a second voyage. This time, he succeeded, and announced his arrival on a rock near Bella Coola near the Pacific by painting the following words with a vermillion and grease mixture:

The very frist white man to cross from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific was Alexander Mackenzie. He found his way from the Grate Slave lake to the Artic Ocen, with a small band of friends and Indian guides.
